This remake of the '94 fighter adds high resolution visuals to the mix, making for a much better looking KOF experience. The game's backgrounds have been updated to 3D, but they can be switched back to the original 2D backdrops if desired (the 2D versions run in the same resolution as the arcade version, unfortunately). Internet play is provided through KDDI's Multi Matching BB service, making this the series' first attempt at net-based play. Using this feature required that players pay KDDI a monthly fee of 945 yen (this fee covers other games as well). Players are able to edit character colors in order to make sure they have their very own character Online. The PS2 version also lets players edit a team character-per-character.
A couple of new characters are also included. Extracts to ISO.
The King Of Fighters 94 Rebout
60fps available! Playthrough with Rugal, Saisyu and Ryo. This game was made as part of the KoF 10th anniversary celebrations, and it features new backgrounds along with cleaned up sprites. An edit mode was also added, letting you pick any characters you wanted for your team (you couldn't do this in the original game). Rugal was also made playable (well, his second form was) and Saisyu Kusanagi was also added. Neither of these characters were playable in the original. Clearly not enough time was spent updating the A.I., as it doesn't have a clue what to do against Saisyu's two hit lunge move most of the time.
Re-Bout was only released in Japan. An Xbox version was announced, but then later cancelled.
The King of Fighters '94 Re-Bout A huge thanks to Kid Fernis for sharing this previously unreleased gem! 'In 2004, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the series, SNK released a remake titled The King of Fighters '94 Re-Bout. It features the original game and a new version with a higher resolution graphics. A remake, titled The King of Fighters '94 Re-Bout, was released for the PlayStation 2 in Japan only on December 28, 2004, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the franchise. Re-Bout features the original 1994 game and an enhanced version featuring higher resolution graphics, a Team Edit option feature similar to the later KOF games, the ability to play as Saisyu Kusanagi and Rugal Bernstein, arranged music and an online versus mode. SNK Playmore commented that they received negative fan feedback regarding the game's simple upscaling and smoothing of character sprites, so they decided to create brand new high resolution sprites for the following games in the series. A North American version was meant to released for the Xbox.
It was actually completed and was even reviewed by some publications, but was then canceled on March 23, 2006 for an undisclosed reason.'
